Pottery Course @ Tradpots Studio

I'm now holding a 4-week course at Tradpots Ceramic Studio in Lytchett Minster - Tuesday mornings or

afternoons. 

Tradpots studio is in a beautiful environment, and the studio is a professional, friendly place to work, with everything you would expect from a professional studio.  An extensive range of glazes, kiln room, drying room, wet room, slab rollers, in short, everything you will need to produce anything in clay.

I started with Tradpots as a student learning how to throw and make pots, but soon realized my interest was in sculpting, which is something I taught in digital form for over a decade at Bournemouth University and Poole College.  So it was a natural progression.

I was asked by Mark, who is the owner of Tradpots and a highly regarded potter and teacher,  to hold sculpting classes a few months ago, and I have been very happily working there since.  Such lovely people, both those who come on the courses and the staff.

BREAKDOWN

I will take you through the process of sculpting in clay in 4 weeks, which will enable you to produce an item that you can cherish.  In the first 4 weeks, it is more prescriptive to ensure that everyone can finish at the same time.  However, the course is as much about being creative as it is about learning. People will usually sculpt an animal, and I'll advise if it is something we can do in time. - Some people remain after the 4-week period, and then I work with them to create more complex pieces, looking at skeletons, muscle groups, and proportions - depending on what they want to achieve. 

Week one: Navigating the studio, Design,  creating a form, learning how to use the slab roller, and finally wrapping the form with the clay parts to give the basic shape of the chosen object.

Week two:  Working on basic shape and attaching parts together, and how to do this successfully.

Week three: final details and any extra models, such as dog toys, etc. - finish the modeling.

Week four: discussing options to finish work, such as oxides, underglazes, and

final glazing. 

We fire the finished piece, and you can pick it up one to two weeks later -  I will call you when it's ready.

The cost includes: materials and firing.
