Ceramics

I started my 'ceramics journey' at a local ceramics studio, @Tradpots Pottery, located within an Artisan community near my studio. I have fallen in love with all things pottery and have recently joined @East Dorset Potters.  Some of my creations are here on the website, but a more comprehensive visual list can be found on my Instagram page.

Night light

Inspired by the cold water swimming group, the 'BlueTits Chill Swimmers'.  Who are a group of inclusive community swimmers.

I went swimming with the group for the first time just before Christmas.  The group can be found on Facebook and post their meets on the site.

THE GREEN MAN
Commission

This is a commissioned sculptured portrait piece from photos provided by the client.  For commissioned work, please get in touch with me cathy.cheyne@googlemail.com

The Green Man

The Green Man is a fascinating figure rooted deeply in Celtic mythology, representing the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth. This symbol is often depicted as a man whose face is composed of leaves, branches, and vines, embodying the essence of nature itself. The significance of the Green Man transcends mere folklore; it stands as a potent emblem of fertility, growth, and the intrinsic connection between humanity and the natural world.

BUSTY LADY (plant-pot)
a learning curve!

I had so much fun making my Busty Lady.  There is so much that is wrong technically in the final peice - but its mine and the learning curve was steep!  I've learnt so much from making her - she is much loved and sits in my studio as one of my first peices.

Ophelia

After making the Green Man, a few people asked me to make a Green Woman. Ophelia started as a green woman, but became something else.  I had been to see Eddie Izzard in his one-man play Hamlet, and The Green Woman became Ophelia and a bird bath for the garden.

Ophelia is a character in William Shakespeare's drama "Hamlet," where she is depicted as a young noblewoman of Denmark, the daughter of Polonius, and the potential wife of Prince Hamlet. Her tragic fate leads her to madness and ultimately drowning due to the turmoil caused by Hamlet's actions.
