After a few months not painting anything due to ill health I am back to painting and this large painting of the animals stacked from the nursery rhyme - "I know an old woman who swallowed a fly". It was inspired initially by an art installation I saw some years ago in Malta when we were there celebrating a wedding with family. The piece that directly influenced this painting was 'The Whole Cow' by Joel Saliba.
Valletta 2018 Unveils ‘Hekk Jgħid Il-Malti’ Public Art Installations were temporary installations. The body of work was based on Maltese proverbs with the aim of bringing to the public’s attention Malta’s linguistic heritage. The artist Joel Saliba who said these sculptures intended to be thought provoking and to reflect on the language. The meaning of the title "The Whole Cow" is that what one man likes,
another might not.
